HR Departments

Identifying the potential of novel compounds to transform medical treatment is the charge of our R&D department. Though a young company, we already have a strong heritage of focusing on selected agents with immense promise. R&D is the heart of our company.

Establishing the safety and efficacy of promising compounds is a fundamental task in drug development. Organizing the studies themselves, recruiting and training the professionals, validating the results are the responsibility of the Clinical Department.

Medical professionals have their core competency in science. However, they are involved in translating this science into clinically meaningful messages which can be easily understood by other healthcare professionals and the wider community.

Medical Affairs must anticipate and provide answers for every aspect of our products as they approach launch, and beyond, as they make their way into new indications and new markets.

Products like ours that touch upon health issues must be beyond reproach, and without compromise. Our Quality Assurance department serves as our internal guardian of the highest standards of performance in product quality, in our company’s behavior and more.  Our Regulatory Affairs department serves as our link to the health authorities ensuring that our company is in conformance with all applicable laws and regulations governing the biopharmaceutical industry, always with the goal of protecting patient safety and well-being.

Marketing and Sales connects the potential of our products with the real life clinic. Our Marketing department champions the overall commercial position of our products, identifies market segments in which our products can best address unmet medical needs, and provides salient information to educate our core audiences.  Our  Sales department will be the frontline of our services and products to our target audience of eye care specialists.  We anticipate a fully-functional sales organization at the time of ocriplasmin launch.

No matter how miraculous our therapies prove to be in clinical trials, they must make their way to success in the real world. There are very real challenges in the marketplace, including distribution and reimbursement. Our Market Access department must grapple and overcome these challenges.

The marketplace is a living entity. It changes. A thriving market provides new opportunities, and attracts new entries. A successful product must constantly expand to fill all opportunities through Business Development.

Finances are the circulatory system of any company. The flow of revenue must nourish and replenish every corner of our activities, efficiently and at a high level. Our Finance & Accounting department makes sure that the financial lifeblood of our company continues pumping without pause.

Program Management is about delivering a project from the preclinical stage through regulatory submission to the market by using a team of internal and external experts. Program management combines the ability and resources to define, plan, implement, and integrate every aspect of a drug development project.

The role of HR must parallel the needs of the changing organization. Successful organizations are adaptable and resilient. HR has responsibility for all of the functions that deal with the needs and activities of the organization's people including these areas of responsibility:

  • Recruitment, selection and on-boarding
  • Compensation and employee benefit management
  • Performance, conduct and behavior management
  • Training and development (learning management)
  • Organizational design and development
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state and federal labor laws

Our Information & Communication Technology department keeps our entities connected to each other. As a rapidly growing company in an evolving industry, this department must be agile and constantly upgrading us to keep us on the edge.

This department is the heart and soul of our operation, and is highly regulated by the health authorities (including Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency). We must formulate, establish specifications, source and assure the composition and purity of ingredients, produce our products and packaging under impeccable conditions using a standard method, and then test so that only the highest quality leaves our production facilities … and is documented at every step. Our reputation depends on unwavering professional standards in CMC.
