Strategic Focus

Our goal is to become a strong and profitable biopharmaceutical company, with a focus on commercializing innovative ophthalmic medicines. To realize this vision, we are committed to developing options to address the unmet medical needs of highly prevalent ophthalmic diseases, while continuing to develop new treatment approaches to cardiovascular disease and oncology.

Our clear, focused strategy is based on the following critical success factors:

  • Successful filing of ocriplasmin for FDA and EMA approval for the treatment of symptomatic vitreomacular adhesion (VMA). ThromboGenics has actively begun the development of its commercial organization in anticipation of its launch in both the US and EU-5.  As part of its operational ramp-up, ThromboGenics has built a team of experienced leaders within its critical functions, and has begun its planning toward product submission in the second half of 2011.
  • Completing the clinical development of our lead product, ocriplasmin. We have successfully completed two pivotal Phase III trials to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of the pharmacologic treatment for symptomatic VMA. We continue to explore other clinical applications for ocriplasmin and anticipate this lead product to be a cornerstone of the treatment of retinal diseases.
  • Continuing development of our novel vascular and cancer therapies:
    • TB-402 is a unique, long-acting anticoagulant that could be used for the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and atrial fibrillation. We have already successfully completed one Phase II study and a further trial is planned for 2011.
    • TB-403 is a novel anticancer drug in Phase Ib/II trials. In partnership with Roche, TB-403 is being developed for  the treatment of cancer by inhibiting growth of solid tumors and metastases. It is believed that TB-403 inhibits the advancement and growth of cancer cells and tumors, while protecting normal healthy tissues and blood vessels.
